A: Japanese Green Tea is green because the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis tea shrub from which it and most other tea comes are originally bright green in colour. Japanese green tea like all other green tea types does not undergo the oxidation process of black tea production, which may be partial in the case of oolong tea or darjeeling for example, or more complete in the case of dark smoky flavoured black teas like lapsang souchong.
